Adopting

Adopting a Dachshund, Cross or Puppy

If you’ve made it to this page you must be thinking about adopting a Dachshund.
Please read everything we have to say below before completing our application to adopt.

Points to consider before you apply for a dog:

Rescue dogs will often come with some baggage. This could be a history of trauma, anxiety, insecurities and occasionally physical abuse. Even if a dog doesn’t have a traumatic history, moving homes can be confusing and upsetting for them. Adopting and fostering requires patience and understanding. We will provide you with the tools and support but the process of helping a rescue dog settle, and feel safe will be your responsibility and you must be committed to cooperating with any instructions and advice given.
Dachshunds can suffer with separation anxiety and this can be caused or exacerbated by a change in homes. Although this can be worked through once a dog is happy and settled they still often crave company and we believe that 4 hours a day is the maximum amount of time that a dog should be left alone. Many of our dogs would find 4 hours too long so please consider this before applying. We may ask your employer to verify your working hours.

Our aim is to find wonderful, responsible, forever homes for all of our dogs and we take our responsibility finding the best possible home for each dog very seriously. We are not judgemental but we will ask you a lot of questions to ensure you are the best match for a dog, please ensure you are honest in your replies. It may mean the dog you are applying for isn’t right for you, but we might have another perfect dog for you to meet and fall in love with.

We will allow dogs to be adopted to homes with children of all ages as long as the dog is suitable for that environment. We will discuss your circumstances and try to determine if the dog you’re interested in will be suitable for your home/family/lifestyle/other pets.

We are looking for wonderful, responsible, forever homes. That means asking questions and trying to marry up the correct pet with the prospective family. We are not judgmental but we have a very large responsibility to make sure we do what’s right for you and especially for our charges.
