Charlie is the definition of a “diamond in the rough” – a brilliant, high-energy boy who is overflowing with love but just hasn’t quite learned how to navigate the big, wide world yet. While he is very reactive, it stems from a lack of social skills rather than any true aggression; he simply doesn’t know the proper “handshake” for meeting new friends. He is looking for a dedicated owner who sees his potential and is excited to spend quality one-on-one time building his confidence and refining his social etiquette.
When he isn’t out exploring, Charlie is a world-class companion who lives for cuddles and kisses. He is a clever lad who thrives on mental stimulation and has a great deal of energy to burn, making him the perfect match for someone who enjoys active training sessions. He’s a big fan of a vigorous game of tug-of-war and considers a dried rabbit ear to be the ultimate culinary prize. While he is perfectly happy to settle down and be left alone for up to four hours, he does have a bit of a mischievous streak – he’s been known to “redesign” his dog beds and has a particular talent for sniffing out and stealing stray underwear!
Because Charlie is still working on the basics, his new family will need to be patient as they help him finalize his toilet training and general house manners. It is important to note that Charlie requires an adult-only home. He previously bit a family member in an isolated incident involving food, so his new owners should be experienced or comfortable with resource-guarding protocols. By using “trade-up” methods and respecting his space during mealtimes, Charlie is a manageable and deeply rewarding companion. If you are a savvy dog person with a sense of humor and a lot of heart, Charlie is ready to be your most loyal project.
