Beautiful B&T Boy

This beautiful, affectionate pair came into emergency foster care following a significant and distressing change in their family circumstances. The move was sudden and necessary, and they understandably arrived feeling unsettled after a difficult period. Over the past two months, they have been given the time, space, and support they needed to decompress and begin rebuilding their confidence.
During this time, their dedicated foster carers have worked closely with The Red Foundation behaviour team and a face-to-face trainer to carefully assess their needs and support them through the transition. The progress they have made has been encouraging.
Inside the home, they are described as almost perfect house guests. They settled quickly, bonded easily with their carers, and were friendly with visitors. True to dachshund form, they enjoy keeping an eye on the world from the window and alerting their humans to any suspicious activity, but above all they are loving, affectionate dogs who adore snuggling up on or beside their people.
Outside the home, they are still very much a work in progress. They will need adopters who can offer quiet, low-pressure walks and who are willing to continue working with our behaviour team. Cheeky Chocolate Lady, in particular, is highly excitable and can strongly react to dogs, people, and unfamiliar noises. Beautiful B&T Boy may occasionally join in but is generally the calmer of the two. Their foster carers have found that driving them to quieter areas and using long lines in open fields works well, allowing them to enjoy exercise while minimising triggers.
The dogs have never lived with children but have met grandchildren and neighbours whilst out and about and have never shown any semblance of aggression so we feel that a home with calm and sensible children who can respect the dogs space might be a possibility.
Cheeky Chocolate Lady has a strong prey drive and is always alert to movement, so a home without cats or small animals is essential. She also loves water and is a keen swimmer.
The pair are bonded to one another and to their humans. In their previous home they were left alone for long periods, and following the upheaval they experienced, Cheeky Chocolate Lady in particular struggles with separation anxiety. Their new home will need someone around for most of the day and a commitment to gently and patiently working on this.
These two truly deserve a calm, understanding, and loving home where they can continue to heal and rediscover the happy, confident dogs they once were. With the right support, they will reward their adopters with immense affection and loyalty.
