Dotty was rescued by her current owner when she was 18 months old. She had lived in a cage her whole life, had not been walked, never played with toys or known love. Since then her current owner has worked on teaching Dotty how to be a dog and enjoy life.
While Dotty is nervous when first meeting new people with time and patience, she comes round and will want to be best friends. We feel Dotty would benefit from having a friend to play with and will show what being a dog is all about.
Dotty very much has a zest for life now she’s free from her cage. She loves going for walks, is slowly learning how to play with toys, loves treats and her favourite people.
Because Dotty had never really been socialised she does bark at everything on walks but her owner believes this is out of excitement. Like a typical dachshund, she very much likes everyone to know she’s there.
Dotty is housetrained but will have the occasional accident, she is not crate trained but she is happy to be left for 3-4 hours.
Because of Dotty’s background she has had to learn everything she should have been taught as a puppy and while she is getting there, she will need owners who are happy to continue with training.
All behavioural support needed to help Dotty continue becoming a confident, well mannered dachshund will be provided by The Red Foundation.
Requirements in a home:
- Loving and calm home with someone who has the time to continue her training
- Adult only or with children over 10 years old
- Dogs are fine after successful meetings
- No cats
