Doyle is described as simply adorable, there isn’t an unpleasant bone in his body. Sadly his owner is going through a difficult time, with an unexpected relationship breakup and battling cancer, means Doyle’s life has been turned upside down and his owner just hasn’t got the time that he so needs.

He is a beautiful, loving dog who gets on with everyone. He adores being hugged, stroked and given the adoration he deserves, and will spend hours on his family’s knees or by their side. He’s grown up with another dog, and gets on well with new dogs, and loves the children in his extended family. He was a little startled by a toddler lunging at him, but is generally very keen to meet new people and loves to make a fuss. One of his most endearing qualities is that he seems to be incredibly aware of the physical limitations of the humans he meets. Whilst he has been known to pull on the lead when being taken for a walk by a tough, strong person, he’s far more gentle when the lead is held by someone with less mobility.

He adores his owner and will do anything for her. He may sling the occasional ‘deaf ear’ to commands from others, but responds really well to her whistle commands. Doyle will need time to settle into a new home and get used to his new family but we feel that once he’s settled and decided his new family is great, training will help to cement the bond and he will make you truly proud of him.

The Red Foundation behaviour team are there to help support his new family with this.

All Doyle would wish for is a lovely sunny day. Without a doubt, he’d be happy sunbathing all day, barely moving a muscle whilst he’s soaking up the rays. He loves his walks although isn’t too keen on walking in the rain, but he doesn’t mind walking when it’s cold. The dark, and wind, however are a slightly different matter. His big, butch exterior is a little bit of a lie as he’s a little frightened of the wind and dark, and he will probably bark (no doubt hoping that he will scare the nasty wind away). We feel that with patience and training this will reduce as his confidence improves.

Doyle is housetrained. He’s crate trained and loves it. He’ll often decide that he wants to go in there, and will happily sleep in there for hours. He can travel in a car and can be left for up to 4 hours.

Requirements in a home:

  • He would love a home with more than one person, as he is very sociable
  • Children over 10 years old
  • He can live with dogs, subject to a successful introduction
  • He hasn’t been cat tested
  • A secure garden
