Frank is a loving and affectionate little boy who is struggling to adapt to a busy household since an IVDD episode last year.  His owners feel he will be happier in a quieter home with a family who has the time to help him adjust to being a bit wobbly on his back feet and who have an easy-to-access garden where he can have a nice sniff and explore.

Frank is a sociable dog who loves attention and cuddles.  He is very happy lazing on the sofa with his special person, he loves to sunbathe and he also enjoys burrowing under any comfy blanket that comes his way.  He will welcome people to the house with a typical dachshund bark, but will quickly settle.  He currently lives with a young child, but would almost certainly prefer a quieter home without young children.  He has occasionally been possessive with high-value treats and chew toys so access to these should be carefully managed. He is polite and well socialised outside the home and we feel he could be an only dog or he could live happily with another dog following successful meets. Once settled, he can be left on his own for up to four hours, however, he does like to know what everyone is up to and is not a fan of being left on his own while people are in the house (for example, upstairs), although he is happy to sleep in his own bed in the kitchen by himself.

Frank had an operation for IVDD in October 2025 and is undergoing physiotherapy to help him continue his recovery. The Red Foundation will discuss the support we will give for his IVDD rehabilitation with potential adopters.  He is now able to walk and can control his bladder, however, he does have occasional poo accidents.  He can now climb up a step and hopefully this progress will continue. His new family will need to monitor this and potentially provide ramps so he can move around the home safely.  Frank is on a specific diet due to a one off episode of pancreatitis a few years ago, this has not bothered him subsequently.

Frank is a handsome boy who is looking for a home who can give him the love and attention he needs.
