Frankie is a loving and affectionate dog to those he knows and trusts, a typical dachshund who loves to un-stuff his toys and follow his favourite human around the house. Sadly, he is being surrendered due to various behavioural changes which occurred after an incident in 2022. Poor Frankie got stuck in a badger’s den for over 30 minutes, and since then, his behaviour has not been quite the same and his owners have been finding it hard to manage along with a young family.

Frankie can be unpredictable with strangers and other dogs, he has bitten strangers outside of the home so he now has to be muzzled when walking outside. He will resource guard certain items, such as high value treats and clothing, but this has been managed.

Frankie also suffers from separation anxiety and doesn’t like to be left, he will therefore need a home where someone is there most of the time or is willing to work through these anxieties.

Frankie lives with children but due to his bite history we feel a calmer, adult only home would be more suitable. He is housetrained but will sometimes have accidents in the house when he is left, he is crate trained and doesn’t mind a car journey.

Due to Frankie’s behaviours, we feel its best Frankie is homed with an experienced owner who is willing to advocate for him. Someone who is willing to work with us on his behavioural issues to take advice and won’t give up on him at the first sign of trouble but has the time and patience to put in the training he needs.

With the right owner, training and time, he has the potential to be a happy, well-mannered dachshund and best friend for life. All behavioural support will be provided by The Red Foundation.

Requirements in a home:

  • Calm, loving adult home with minimal visitors
  • Someone who is home most of the time
  • No dogs or cats
  • Someone who is willing to commit to Frankie and provide the support that he needs
