Meet Stan – a bright, affectionate and spirited wire-haired dachshund looking for his forever home.

Stan is a lively, intelligent boy who thrives on both companionship and activity.  He adores curling up on the sofa for evening cuddles and is equally enthusiastic about daytime adventures.  Whether it’s hiking, scent work or splashing through puddles, Stan is happiest when he’s on the move and using his clever mind.

He is a fast learner and responds well to positive, structured training.  Stan would flourish in a home with a secure garden and an active lifestyle that gives him regular outlets for his energy.  His recall is a work in progress, so he’s currently walked on lead and benefits from long lines and freedom fields to help manage his lead frustration.

Stan is best suited to an experienced adult-only home where everyone plays an active role in his care and bonding.  He can form strong attachments to one person, so it’s important that his relationships are balanced and consistent, especially if someone works from home.  A clear routine and shared responsibilities will help Stan feel secure and understood.  Stan has lived with other dogs, but there is a history of occasional conflict, particularly around food and when he is overtired.  He is young, exuberant and full of life, and sometimes struggles to recognise when it’s time to rest.  His new home will need to support him in learning to settle and decompress, with calm routines and clear boundaries to help him regulate his energy and emotions.

He has made great progress in his current home and continues to grow in confidence, however his owners feel he needs more than they are able to commit.  There have been two incidents involving bites to humans: one occurred during a redirected response following a fight over food, and another happened when Stan was resting on the sofa with his owners and was moved causing him to snap.  In the latter case, discomfort may have been a contributing factor.  These incidents highlight Stan’s need for a calm, structured environment where his emotional and physical boundaries are respected.

Stan has also shown guarding behaviours around toys, chews and the sofa, particularly when he feels overly attached to one person.  These behaviours are manageable with training and structure, and he responds well when toys are used as part of learning activities.  For this reason, Stan cannot be placed with children, and we recommend that sofa access is restricted or carefully managed until he feels secure in his relationships.

With the right support, Stan’s potential is enormous.  He’s a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys training, outdoor adventures and building a strong, trusting bond.  If you’re ready to offer Stan the stability, stimulation and love he deserves, he’ll reward you with loyalty, laughter and endless cuddles.
