Tiggy is a beautiful miniature dachshund with a soft, sandy-coloured curly coat and the sweetest personality to match. This little girl has had quite a journey she lived happily with her sister until her beloved owner moved into a nursing home. Tiggy still enjoys visiting her former owner but has spent the past three months in a loving temporary home, where she’s shown what a gentle, affectionate companion she can be.
In her foster home, Tiggy has fitted right in with the two resident dogs. She’s growing in confidence every day and is starting to show her playful side — it’s been wonderful to see her come out of her shell. Because of this, we feel Tiggy would thrive in a home with another friendly dog (or dogs) after careful introductions, though she could also be happy with someone home most of the time.
Tiggy can be a little under-confident on walks and has shown some reactivity, but her progress has been fantastic over the last few months. She has excellent recall, rarely strays far, and is actually less reactive when off-lead. She’s a clever little girl who already knows several commands.
Tiggy is fully house-trained and happily shares a bed with one of the other dachshunds at night. She can be left for up to four hours at a time, settles well, and greets you with a wagging tail when you return. In the car, she may whine a little in anticipation of her next adventure, but she travels well overall.
This friendly girl loves visitors, especially when the grandchildren (aged 2 and 3) come to play she enjoys the company and joins in with gentle excitement. She’s also cat-friendly, having previously lived with one, and while she’s not a fan of chickens, she’s learned to keep her distance thanks to a sturdy fence! One of Tiggy’s quirks is her fondness for hedgehogs she once gently carried one indoors, completely unharmed, just to show off her “find.”
Tiggy is generally healthy, though she does have a mild heart arrhythmia. It doesn’t affect her day-to-day life, and she doesn’t require any medication. Her vet is happy for her to be neutered, and she’s due to be brought up to date with her vaccinations soon.
She enjoys her meals of kibble with a little meat twice a day (and, of course, a lunchtime treat!), and she loves being groomed, bathed, and cuddled. In fact, her favourite place is right on your lap soaking up all the affection she can get.
Tiggy would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal, loving little friend with a gentle nature and a big personality. She’s come so far already and is ready to find her forever home where she’ll be cherished as much as she deserves.
