Arlo was rescued by his current owner at just 5 weeks old, He is completely deaf and mostly blind although he can potentially see some shapes/shadows. Arlo has never let his disabilities slow him down and as a pup was described as “full of chaos”
As he’s gotten older, and due to his disabilities, he started to show resource guarding towards the other dogs in the home. This has been carefully managed by his owners by not letting Arlo have items of high value and being mindful of items he will guard if in the same room. Unfortunately, because of this Arlo has bitten previously either through misdirection when guarding an item or because of his limited vision and hearing, he has been spooked previously which has resulted in a bite.
Unsurprisingly Arlo can be reactive to strangers, it takes him a long time to warm up to people and trust them but once he does he is the most loving boy who enjoys nothing more than a cuddle or belly rub. In typical daxie fashion Arlo also loves to bark, probably more than your average dachshund because he can’t hear himself.
Arlo is a smart boy who knows lots of tricks and even some sign language. In a calm and consistent environment we believe he has the potential to be someone’s loving best friend for life. He is housetrained, sleeps in his bed in the kitchen, travels well in a car and can be left for up to four hours.
All behavioural support needed for Arlo will be provided by The Red Foundation.
