Description

  • Rotherham, South Yorkshire
  • 3 years old
  • Male, standard dachshund
  • Black & tan, smooth coat
  • Neutered
  • Adoption fee is £250

Marvin has been described as being smart, playful and cheeky. He is very good on walks, and does not tend to react to other dogs or pull on the lead.

Marvin was surrendered to us in May 2025 due to his owner being unable to give him the time and stimulation that he needs. Due to this he hadn’t been socialised well and when he moved to adoption he struggled and started showing unsavoury behaviours towards his new owners, such as humping and growling at the male in the home. As the family had a small child they felt they weren’t the right home for him.

Since then he has been living in kennels where he has been neutered and they have been working on socialising him and showing him how to be a calm, relaxed and settled boy.

Marvin can be anxious around new people, and he can become overexcited when there is a lot going on in the home. We are therefore looking for a calm, adult-only home with someone who is able to give time to continue the work in helping Marvin feel more settled and calm in unfamiliar situations.

Marvin isn’t a fan of being left alone but he tends to settle down in time. Of course he would prefer a home where someone is around a lot of the time. He may be able to live with a calm, neutered female pending successful meetings; he has not lived with a dog but has got on well with the dogs in the kennels.

Marvin is housetrained, he isn’t crate trained but he doesn’t mind a car journey. He would suit a calm, loving and active home, ideally with some dachshund experience or a willingness to learn. A home where he can enjoy walks, enrichment activities and garden time.

Requirements in a home:

  • Adult only home
  • Someone who is home a lot of the time
  • Someone with time and patience to ensure Marvin feels safe and familiar with his new owner
  • No cats
  • Could potentially live with an older, neutered female dog
