Winnie is a beautiful 2-year-old Standard Dachshund with a unique Isabella colouring and a mixed coat. She’s full of personality and charm, and she’s looking for a home where she can thrive as the only dog.

Winnie is a strong and bouncy girl who loves her daily walks. She wears a harness and, while she can be a bit reactive—barking and pulling towards other dogs—she walks well  and isn’t let off lead. With consistent training and structure, she has lots of potential to improve.

She was originally rehomed by her current family 18 months ago and settled in well. However, a recent phantom pregnancy in the resident dog has unfortunately led to increasing tension and serious fights, requiring the dogs to be kept separated at home. This is why Winnie is now looking for a new start in a pet-free household.

Winnie can be nervous around strangers at first, but with a little patience, she soon warms up and becomes affectionate and friendly, soaking up fuss from her new human friends. She’s lived happily with older children (10+) and loves to play—especially with her toys! Just be mindful that she has a typical dachshund streak and likes to “deconstruct” them, so supervision during playtime is important to keep her safe.

She’s house trained, doesn’t chew furniture or belongings, and can be left alone for up to 5 hours during the day with no issues. Occasionally, she may do a small excited wee when greeting you—but only because she’s so happy to see you!

Winnie travels in her own car seat basket, safely secured, but she’s not the biggest fan of car journeys and may whine. Similarly, vet visits can make her a bit anxious but as soon as the treats come out, she becomes much more relaxed and cooperative.

This clever girl eats her meals quickly (likely due to being very slim when first adopted), but she’s polite with food and will allow you to take it from her if needed.

At night, Winnie sleeps peacefully on her own downstairs she’s not crate trained, but she settles beautifully in her bed.

Requirements in a home:

  • No other dogs (Winnie must be the only dog in the home)
  • Children aged 10+
  • No cats (has not been tested with cats)
  • A calm, patient home willing to give her time to settle and confidence to grow
  • A secure garden would be a bonus

Winnie is a loving, loyal companion who just needs the right environment to flourish. Could you be the one to give her the second chance she deserves? Please click Make Enquiry above or email Louise@theredfoundation.org.uk
